Obituary

Clara Mast, 95, of Volga, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 17, 2020, at the Christian Reformed Church in Volga, South Dakota at 2:00 p.m., with burial following the service at Trinity Cemetery in Volga.  A time of visitation will be held the evening prior, Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Clara Mast was born on December 7, 1924, in Volga, South Dakota, the daughter of Benjamin and Josie (Wiersma) VandenBerg.  Clara received her elementary education in country schools, and was a graduate of Volga High School in 1942.  She was united in marriage to Peter Mast on January 14, 1946, at the Volga Reformed Church.  Peter died on June 12, 1979.

Clara was an active member of the Christian Reformed Church.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, playing cards, and especially spending time with her family.

Clara is survived by her daughters: Beverly (James) Kleinjan, of Bruce, SD, Janet Vander Zalm of Brookings, SD, Pamela (Roger) Shay, of Fruita, CO, and Rosemary (Larry) Stafford, of South Bend, IN; daughter-in-law Kim Mast, of Arlington, SD; grandchildren: Jenna (Corey) Lundquist, of Arlington, SD, Jonathan Kleinjan, of Bruce, SD, Kay (Mitch) Shooks, of Grand Rapids, MI, Ben (Lisa) Dengerink, of Denver, CO, and Les Kleinjan, of Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren: Kali (Mike) Ulrich, Hannah (Jacob Jackson) Rowe, Brayden Rowe, Brody Miller, Krystal Roth, Andy Lundquist, Jael Lundquist, Sawyer Lundquist, Clara Shooks, Josie Shooks, Sadie Shooks, Hazel Shooks, Scarlett Dengerink, and Quinn Dengerink; a great-great-grandchild, Lennyn Jackson; and her sisters, Edith Mulder, of Volga, SD, May O'Neill, of Mandeville, LA, and Lois (Gene) Kleinjan, of Bruce, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her son, Gary; two brothers: Daniel and Jerry; sisters: Mildred, Esther, Harriet, Dora, and Bertha; and her parents, Benjamin and Josie.

Although flowers are appreciated, Clara's family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Volga Christian School in Clara's memory.
