Obituary

Christopher Espland, 31, of Volga, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at his home unexpectedly.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings at 3:00 P.M.  Visitation will be held the evening prior, Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.

Christopher Espland was a loving and caring father and husband to his family.  He was most proud of his role of being a father to his boys.  He cherished and loved moments that he was able to teach and spend time with his kids and his wife.  The people that Chris loved, he loved with his whole heart.  He was the most caring, understanding, and non-judgmental person you could ever meet.  Chris was a thoughtful person, and you could always count on him to listen to anything you had to tell him.  He always seemed to have the right words to say.  Being incredibly smart, Chris loved to learn and read.  He also had a very creative side and loved to cook.  He enjoyed spending time with his family fishing, camping, traveling, and playing Xbox, particularly Halo.  He attended Volga school, later going on to earn his GED.  He attended college for a short time, until life took him on another path.  He had various jobs throughout his life, trying to find his passion.  Chris always wanted the best for his family and had big dreams for himself.  He always put his family first, and was the most selfless person.  No matter how hard his life became, Chis always tried to be positive and move forward.  He was an extremely hard worker and was great at everything he did.  Chris always strived to give 110% in everything that he did and be the best that he could be.  He loved and cherished his dogs and cats, especially his Cerberus that he missed dearly.

Chris is survived by his wife, Hannah; sons: Hunter, Jaxon, and Theodore; his brother, Eric (Liang) Espland; sisters: Vanessa, Jennifer (Charles) Hartman, Andrea Jensen; mother, Jackie Espland; nephews: Ethan Luciano, Julian, and Emory Espland, and Chance and Skyler Hartman; uncle, Bill Espland, and the rest of his many family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Pitts; grandpa Robert Espland; and grandma Margaret Espland.
