Christine Olson, age 95, of Brookings and formerly of Sinai, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 31, 2019, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai with burial to follow in the West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Christine was born on June 5, 1923, in Astoria, South Dakota to Christian and Marie (Herberg) Christensen. She was baptized on the same day that she was born. Christine and her family were members of the Lutheran Church in Astoria, where she attended Sunday school and was confirmed.
After Christine graduated from high school, she moved with her parents to Brookings. While in Brookings, she joined First Lutheran Church and started working as a short order cook at a café. Christine also began knitting and crocheting in her spare time. While working, Christine met and fell in love with her future husband. On January 21, 1951, Christine married Walter (Pulley) Olson at Brookings. Together, they moved onto the Olson family farm, raising livestock, and helping out the neighbors with their stock as well.
Christine and Pulley were members of the Sinai Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the church circles. Christine was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a girl's 4-H leader for many years. She loved spending time baking, decorating cakes, square dancing, and raising her ducks and geese.
Survivors include her three children: Robert "Bobby" (Joan) Olson of Volga, Kathy Murray of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Steven (Maricel) Olson of Volga; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pulley; son-in-law, David Murray; grandson, Seth Murray; one sister; and three brothers.
