Charlotte Mae (Trotman) Seas was born June 9, 1920, at Wibaux, Montana, to Charles and Rosetta (Seney) Trotman. Her mother died just a few days after childbirth, and Charlotte was then raised as Charlotte Seney by her uncle Dan and Laura Seney. She spent the first few years of her life in the Wadena, Minnesota, area, then moved with the Seneys, along with sister Jeannette, to the Brookings area. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1938. She attended General Beadle College in Madison the following year and earned certification as a South Dakota teacher. Charlotte taught country school in the Brookings area for seven years. On June 2, 1943, she married Dallas Seas, and they made their home eight miles north of Brookings. They retired from farming in 1980, but continued living on the family farm until 1990 when they bought a home in Brookings. In 1998 they sold their home and moved to Arrowhead Apartments in Brookings. Charlotte was a 4-H leader for 25 years, organizing both the Torchlighters and Satellite 4-H clubs in Brookings County. She was a very active member of Extension Homemakers, organizing the Young Matrons clubs at county and statewide levels. She served as president of the South Dakota Extension Homemakers from 1984 through 1986. In 1985 she was chosen by the South Dakota Board of Regents as an Eminent Homemaker of South Dakota. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, was active in the United Methodist Women, and taught Sunday School for 17 years. She was a member of the Brookings Genealogical Society. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, home decorating, painting, crafts, and genealogy. She treasured time with family and friends.
