Charles Edward Breaw, 80, died on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Dougherty Hospice House, in Sioux Falls, SD, following a long battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, with interment at 2:00 P.M. at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings. Visitations will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Miller West Funeral Chapel at 41st and Valley View Road in Sioux Falls, SD. Memorials may be directed to Dougherty Hospice. Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings is in charge of the arrangements. Charles Edward Breaw was born February 10, 1932, at Cavalier, ND, the son of Rev. Floyd and Jeanette (Douglas) Breaw. He died on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Dougherty Hospice House, in Sioux Falls, SD, following a long battle with lung cancer at the age of 80. The family moved to Walcott, ND, when Charles was four years old, where he started school. At the age of ten years, the family moved to Olivet, SD, where his father took a pastorate at the Evangelical United Brethren Church. He graduated from high school at Menno, SD, in 1950. Charles entered the United States Air Force in 1952, and spent three years in France during the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1956. He then attended Aberdeen Business College. He was then employed as a truck driver for Allied Van Lines. Charles was united in marriage to Diane Saylor in 1958. Five children were born to this union. After working for Allied Van Lines for 18 years, he worked for All American Freight Co. In 1978, he started working for Coast to Coast Hardware Truck Delivery. In 1980, he married Rozella Shaffer. Charles was then employed as a maintenance person for the Brookings School District and also for South Dakota State University. Rozella died in 1997 in Sioux Falls. He met and married Maris Knutson in Sioux Falls in 1999. Together they worked as the on-site managers and maintenance personnel for Hegg Companies and later Charisma Co. Survivors include his wife Maris, of Sioux Falls, SD, five children; Kenneth (Sheryl) Breaw of Sioux Falls, Tamara (Bryant) Tjeerdsma of West Des Moines, IA, Deb (Mark) Shaffer of Sioux Falls, Linda Breaw of Santa Rosa, CA and Vickie (Kelly) Flemming of El Sobrante, CA; four step-children Larry (Marcia) Knutson of Spicer, MN, Kathleen (Randall) Tucker of Sioux Falls, Gary (Sandra) Knutson, and Kayleen (Marvin) Bleeker all of Volga, SD; nine grandchildren, Kirstin Breaw, Laura (Brian) Nordby, Sara (Brock) Weeldreyer of Sioux Falls, Heather Shaffer of Virginia Beach, VA, Micah Shaffer of Sioux Falls, Christa (Justin) Morgan of Wichita, KS and Bryant Alex Tjeerdsma of West Des Moines, IA, Rachel Michels and James Risehooer of CA; one great-grandchild Graham Alan Nordby, 13 step-grandchildren, Kelly (Tony) Anderson, Marni (Jeffrey) Paffrath, Kjerstin Knutson of Spicer, MN, Amy (Jahn) Dyvik of Long Lake, MN, Leah Pina, Laura (Casey) Meile, David Tucker all of Sioux Falls, Jordan Tucker of Edina, MN, Ryan (Jennifer) Knutson, Emily (Jonathan) Paulson all of Sioux Falls, Kyle Knutson of Volga, Melissa (Troy) Wiskur, and Jessica (Jeremy) Blum all of Elkton, SD; 16 step great grandchildren; a sister-in-law LaVern Breaw of Scotland, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rose, one brother Merton, sister Dawn Ketterling, step-great-grandchild, Gunner Mark Dyvik.
