Carole Marie (Lokken) Zietlow was born July 29, 1932 to Ingvald and Irma (Swantz) Lokken in Hendricks, Minnesota. She attended grade school in District 72 in Brookings County. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hendricks, Minnesota. Carole then attended Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, South Dakota for one year before transferring to Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, Minnesota. She continued her preparation for the teaching ministry by attending Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. Carole taught at various Christian day schools in Wisconsin. On August 20, 1955, she married David Zietlow at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hendricks, Minnesota. God blessed their marriage with seven children. Upon graduation from the seminary, David and Carole moved to Winnett, Montana where David served various churches. In December of 1967 David accepted a call to Anchorage, Alaska. God used the Zietlow family to establish a number of churches in and around the Anchorage area. On June 10, 1998, David was called home to heaven after a battle with cancer. Carole continued to live in Alaska for several more years and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and fishing. In July of 2001, Carole moved to Brookings where she continued to enjoy visiting family and friends. She was a member of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church here in Brookings. She especially appreciated the time she would spend with her siblings in the area. Carole enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, working in the garden and baking apple pies. Early this past Friday, April 16, Carole was rushed to Sioux Falls to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia which also led to a number of complications including meningitis. On Sunday evening, April 18, the Lord called her home to heaven, Carole's soul at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 20 days. Carole is survived by her children: Carrie (David) Nieme of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Rev. Peter (Lauren) Zietlow of Sheridan, Wyoming, Rev. Hans (Amy) Zietlow of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Todd (Karen) Zietlow of Anchorage, Alaska, Tom (Tracy) of Anchorage, Alaska, Jane (Mike) Dorman of Soldotna, Alaska, Rev. Jonathan (Rachel) Zietlow of Lexington, Kentucky; and 24 grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister,Elaine D. Wiese of Brookings, and brothers: Russel E. (Carol) Lokken of LasVegas, Nevada, Herbert P. (Wanda) Lokken of White, South Dakota, and Ronald D. (Beverly) Lokken of Brandon, South Dakota; a brother-in-law, Donald (LaVonne) Zietlow of Onalaska, Wisconsin and other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
