Carol Reihe, age 74, of Brookings passed away at her home on Saturday, May 2nd surrounded by family.

Carol Maye Saathoff was born in Estelline at the town hospital. She attended Estelline elementary and high school and went on to get her GED. Carol grew up baking and cooking with her mom and watching after her brothers. She worked at Smitty’s Café with her friend after school.

After High School, Carol attended beauty school at Lake Area in Watertown and met her husband, Marvin Reihe, while living in Watertown. They were united in marriage on July 15th, 1972 and blessed with a daughter, Gina, on August 23rd, 1973. The family moved around, including Germany, Louisianna, Texas and Harrisburg, Illinois before returning to South Dakota in 1993. Carol’s later years were filled with love and being the best nana anyone could ask for. She enjoyed baking with her grandson, Donavin, watching gameshows and word-search puzzles.

Carol is survived by her husband, Marvin L Reihe; daughter, Gina L. Riehe; grandson, Donavin D. Davis; step-daughter, Tammy F. Brende; and brother, Herbert J. Saathoff.

She was proceeded in death by her parents James and Frances (Hawley) Saathoff as well as her brothers: Donald Saathoff, Steven Saathoff and Ray Saathoff.
