Carol J. Pike, age 86, of Brookings, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 21, 2005, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will precede services beginning at noon. Carol Josephine Pike was born June 4, 1918, to Frank and Nettie (Duff) Pike. Her father died when she was six months old. She lived with her parents and grandparents on a farm north of Brookings for many years. She moved into the city of Brookings and has been a resident of the United Retirement Center for several years. Carol was a member of the Prairie Home Hobby Club for many years. She enjoyed needlework, baking, and keeping a diary and scrapbooks. Although handicapped all her life, no one had more determination to live and be an independent person than Carol. Carol is survived by several cousins, including Kathryn Chester of Brookings, Marion (Anmae) Johnston of Brookings, Dorothy Deethardt of Aurora, Helen Nonken of Cherokee, Iowa, Marjorie Kahler of Sioux Falls, Lenore Pavlick of Whitewater, Wisconsin; and all her wonderful friends at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. She was preceded in death by her parents.
