Carol Ann (Gilley) Olson, age 73, passed away February 7, 2021 at Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.  Funeral services will be February 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in White, SD.  A viewing will precede the funeral from noon until 2:00.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Due to the mask mandate in Brookings, masks will be required at the viewing and funeral.

Carol was born to Charles and Nina (Simmons) Gilley on September 29, 1947 in Brookings.  She graduated from Brookings High School in 1965.  She attended SDSU and also worked for SDSU for a few years.  Carol was a masterful artist while predominantly focusing her attention on raising her two daughters.  Carol was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader, 4H leader, room mother for the girls' classes at school and never missed her girls' track meets or basketball, volleyball, or softball games.  Throughout the years she lived in Brookings, White, Aberdeen, SD; Lawton, OK; Omaha, NE; Albert Lea, MN; Orange City, IA; Sioux Falls, SD and Rapid City, SD.  She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1988 which she courageously fought for over 30 years.  She was able to stay in her home while raising her youngest daughter until 1995 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, SD.  In 1998, she moved to Wesleyan Health Care Center, n/k/a Fountain Springs Health Care Center in Rapid City, SD.

Carol is survived by her daughters: Chandra (Randy) Canaan and Chira Corwin; brothers: Jim Gilley and Arlan (Char) Gilley; grandchildren: Andrew Canaan, Jace Canaan, Alexia Corwin and Logan Corwin and numerous nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.

Carol was preceded in death by her ex-husband, David Olson; her sister-in-law Dee Gilley and her parents, Charles and Nina Gilley.
