Obituary

Carmen H. Moir died Sunday, October 5, 2003, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota, at the age of 96. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, Iowa, with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitations will precede services at the church beginning at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday. Eidsness Funeral Home of Brookings is in charge of funeral arrangements. Carmen Harriet (Johnson) Moir was born April 24, 1907, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Martin and Martha (Olson) Johnson. She graduated from high school at Central High School and then worked as a bookkeeper for Bekin Van and Storage in Sioux City. On May 15, 1931, she married Edward A. Moir at Carroll, Iowa. After the early 1940s, Carmen worked for Lynn Arkin, C.P.A. in Sioux City, until her retirement. The Moirs moved to Volga in 1993 and the White Healthcare Center in 1996. Ed died April 15, 2001. Carmen was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and had been active in the church choir and Mariners. She served as a Sunday School teacher. Her special interests included sewing, crocheting, and working in her rose garden. Survivors include a son, Greg (Phyllis) Moir, of Volga, South Dakota; and two grandchildren: Jody (Gary) Schnabel and their son Jason, of Tripp, South Dakota, and Jon (Nikki) Moir and their children Karee, Kortnee, and Taylor of Bruce, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; two sisters, Edna and Sylvia; and a brother, Julian.
