Obituary

Carl H. Freyberg, age 87, of Brookings, died Monday, December 24, 2007, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 27, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations are from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Carl Henry Freyberg was born July 20, 1920, on the family farm near Aurora, South Dakota, to Ewald and Freida (Stumple) Freyberg. He attended country school and then worked as a mechanic. He later farmed east of Brookings. On June 26, 1944, he married Dorothy Duncan at Providence, Rhode Island. She died August 23, 1980. On December 27, 1991, he married Mercedes Peggy Pederson in Sioux Falls. The couple moved to Brookings in 2003. Carl was a resident of the White Healthcare Center since 2004. Carl was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing and raising a garden. He was an avid tree farmer, and had received a number of awards from the State of South Dakota and Brookings County. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Freyberg, of Brookings; a son, Wayne (Teressa) Freyberg, of Brookings; two daughters: Kathy (Eddie) Medrano of White, South Dakota, and Carolyn (James) Wakeman of Brookings; two step-sons: Vaughan (Alisa) Pederson of Houston, Texas, and Shawn Pederson of Appleton, Wisconsin; a step-daughter, Paula Curtis, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother, Ewald (Judy) Freyberg, Jr., of Aurora, South Dakota; a sister, Helen Greve, of Brookings; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy; and two sisters: Margaret and Emma. He died Monday, December 24, 2007, at the Brookings Hospital.
