Obituary

Calvin D. Kinner, 77, of Brookings, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, at Brookview Manor. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Morningside Community Church in Brookings, with interment in the United Cemetery, rural Badger. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Calvin Duane Kinner was born November 6, 1928, in Lincoln County, Minnesota, to Reuben R. and Edna Mae (Motter) Kinner. He grew up in the Elkton-Lake Benton area, and graduated from high school in Lake Benton. He farmed after high school. On July 26, 1952, he married Joyce Mae Nachtigall in Brookings. Cal served in the U.S. Army from September 1952 until August 1954, during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, the Kinners farmed in the Elkton-Lake Benton area. In 1990, they moved to Brookings, where Cal delivered the Brookings Register on a rural route, drove the BATA bus for ten and a half years, and worked as a machinist at MTR. Cal belonged to the National Farmers Organization, and was a member of the Morningside Community Church. He enjoyed welding and using his talents making and fixing various items. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of Brookings; four children: Michael (Debbie) Kinner of Anderson, Indiana, David Kinner of Sioux Falls, Beth (Craig) Katt of Kingston, Georgia, and Shari (David) Klatt of Albert Lea, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Bruce (Alice) Kinner, of Elkton; and two sisters: Bernita Crapser of Sioux Falls, and Shirley (Lee) Foerster of Luverne, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
