Bruce Kohler, age 69, of Brookings, died Monday, August 1, 2016, at the Brookings Hospital. Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 5, 2016, at Ascension Lutheran Church. A private family burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery at Brookings. Visitations will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home.

Bruce was born May 28, 1947, in Huron, SD, to Robert and Delores (Gehring) Kohler. He was raised and graduated high school in Huron, SD. Bruce attended SDSU in Brookings, graduating in 1970. He was employed with Spies Corporation of Watertown, SD, for 23 years and continued working in the retail grocery business until his retirement.

On December 7, 2002, Bruce married Avis LaFayette of Fargo, ND. They made their home in Brookings.

Survivors include his wife, Avis Kohler; one sister, Patty (Mark) Porter; nephew, Adam (Amy) Porter; and great-nephews, Marcus and Bennett all of Brookings; brother-in-law, Donald LaFayette of Post Falls, ID; sisters-in-law, Carol (Alvin) Lien of Arthur, ND, and Aneta Dillerud of Pelican Rapids, MN; nieces and nephews, Deanna and Matthew Lien, Sam (Terri) and Eric Pray, Nancy (Scott) Koeneman, Wes and Aaron Breen; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
