Obituary

Brian E. Lane, age 74, of Brookings, died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 31, at Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment and military rites at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Brian Eugene Lane was born April 3, 1933, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Rolland H. and Cecil (Mennis) Lane. While attending Brookings High School he earned his private pilots license. He joined the National Guard in Brookings and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for four yearstwo years in Guam. On June 24, 1955, he married LaVon Asmus in Brookings. Brian attended Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. He was employed by Western Airlines and Los Angeles International Airport. Brian devoted most of his adult life working on aircraft, both in California and the Midwest. He worked for 3M in Brookings for three years, beginning in 1972. Brian worked for Beech Aerospace Services for 16 years, 10 of which while based at the air guard base at Joe Foss Field in Sioux Falls. He retired as a field service representative on August 7, 1995. Brian was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings, the National Rifle Association, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He enjoyed flying and motorcycle riding.. Survivors include his wife, LaVon Lane of Brookings; two sons: James (Lynette) Lane of St. Louis, Missouri, and Rolland Rollie Lane of Mitchell, South Dakota; three daughters: Jean (Lonny) Beynon of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Judy R. Smith of Brookings, and Kathryn Lane of Brookings; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Cecil Lane of the White Healthcare Center; and a brother-in-law, Verne Carlson, of Willmar, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Barbara Carlson.
