Boyce Smith, 94, of Brookings, passed away on March 27, 2017 at the Brookings Hospital.  Services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017, at 1:00 P.M at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment taking place at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings.

Boyce Eugene Smith was born on April 7, 1922, in Beresford, South Dakota, to DeLoss and Cora (Masters) Smith.  He graduated from Beresford High School in 1940, and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Boyce married Jewell Lee "Julie" Brown on December 25, 1943, in Washington DC.  The couple lived and raised their family in Beresford, South Dakota.  In 1968, he and Julie moved to Brookings, where he served as the Finance Officer for the city until his retirement in 1987. Boyce was a member of the Elks, El Riad Shrine, Masons, Lions Club, and the American Legion.

He is survived by his three children: Ron (Bunny) Smith of Thonotosassa, FL, Sandra (Larry) Franklin of Volga, SD, and Larry Smith of Brookings; six grandchildren: Darin of Sioux Falls, SD, Erica (Aaron) Skogen of rural Baltic, SD, Sarah (Nathan) Sommerfeld of Dell Rapids, SD, Brian (Nichole) Franklin of rural Bruce, SD, Ben Smith of Brookings, Tyler Smith of New Mexico; nine great-grandchildren; and three nephews: Kent and Craig Carlson of Eloy, AZ, and Todd Carlson of Knoxville, TN.

His wife Julie, one grandson, and his sister and brother-in-law Chuck and Arvene (Smith) Carlson preceded him in death.
