Bonita Pierce, age 91, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the United Living Community in Brookings.  A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga, SD to celebrate the lives of both Bonita and her husband, Glenn, who passed away in January of this year.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the Pierce family with arrangements.

Bonita Marie Grong Pierce was born on July 3, 1932, to Lars and Olga (Nordseth) Grong.  She grew up in Seaforth, Minnesota, later moving to Badger, South Dakota.  Bonita graduated from Arlington High School and went on to attend the Bartron School of Nursing in Watertown where she became a Registered Nurse.  Throughout her life she was employed at Lake Preston Memorial Hospital, the Arlington Care Center, and the Brookings Clinic.

On June 16, 1953, Bonita was united in marriage to Glenn Pierce.  The couple were married for 69 years.

Bonita held many interests, including baking for her family and friends, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and living at their lake home.

Bonita is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents: Lars and Olga Grong; and her brother, LeRoy Grong.

She leaves behind her son: Tom (Irene) Pierce; daughters: Jane Pierce and Pam (Rick) Adler; seven grandchildren: Karie (Eric) Benson, of Volga, SD, Shelly Pierce, of Nicholasville, KY, Ryan Gross (Mandy Slocum) of Harrisburg, SD, Wade Adler (Lisa Talsma), of Springfield, SD, Jodi (Shane) Rowbotham, of Andover, MN, Megan (Tom) Kreutner, of Brookings, SD, and Molly (Tony) Honkomp, of Brookings, SD; great-grandchildren: Andrea (Brett) Herr, Zach Benson, Kylee Slocum, Kendrick Droppers, Alex Adler, Nathan Rowbotham, Olivia Adler, Clara Kreutner, Noah Rowbotham, Bennett Honkomp, Corrie Kreutner, Konner Honkomp, Kollins Honkomp; and her sisters-in-law: Shirley Grong and Jean Pierce.
