JW "Bill" Ulmer passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at Sanford Hospice Cottage following a short stay. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Eidsness Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sanford Hospice, 2710 W. 12 St. Sioux Falls, 57104. Bill, the son of JW "Joe" and Edleen DeCamp Ulmer, was born in Yankton, SD on October 16, 1922. He graduated from Menno High School and continued his education at SDSU, graduating in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Following college, he served in the US Navy during WWII for 2 years, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. After his discharge, he returned to SDSU where he completed graduate work and taught in the engineering department until 1968. He owned and operated Bill's Sport Shop in Brookings until he retired in 1983. Bill married Jeanne Keenan in Huron, SD in 1950. Together they had 5 children - JW "Joe" (Wendy) of Rexburg, ID; Dave (Mary) of Sioux Falls, Mary (Rick) Severson of Lake Oswego, OR; Don (Julie) of Hawarden, IA; and Jeanne (Mark Ouska) of Raleigh, NC. His wife Jeanne died in 1961. Bill married Joyce Larimore Roth In 1968 and gained 3 step sons - Les (Rae Marie), Colorado Springs, CO; Robert (Satsuki), Ewa Beach, HI; and Jim, Phoenix, AZ. After retirement, Bill and Joyce enjoyed travelling, motor-homing, and living on Lake Poinsett. They spent winters in Pharr, TX up until this month. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Merritt, his first wife, and his step son Robert. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his 7 children, 15 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
