Obituary

Beverly Riedesel, age 85, of Brookings, died Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church in Brookings. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday, December 12, at Eidsness Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church or the Brookings Hospice. Beverly Ann (Swering) Riedesel was born February 20, 1926, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Miles and Glenna (Johnson) Swering. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1944. She attended South Dakota State for two years and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for two years. She taught American history and music in Glidden, Iowa, for two years. On July 1, 1951, she married Loyd Riedesel in Brookings. They farmed in Iowa and then moved to farm north of Brookings in 1956. Loyd died November 3, 2009. Beverly was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the church choir for many years. She was involved in the Presbyterian Women and a member of P.E.O. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, camping, and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include her children: Sydna (Herb) Cheever of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lynn (Diane) Riedesel of Brookings, Reyna (Jim) Martin of Brookings, Alan (Donna) Riedesel of Brookings, and Caryl (Jack) Larson of Brookings; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Diesen, of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
