Beulah Pederson, age 86, of Volga, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Dakota Sun Assisted Living in Volga. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 10, 2011, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-6 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Volga. Beulah Irene was born August 16, 1925, in Volga, South Dakota, the only child of Palmer and Lovina (Snider) Evenson. Beulah was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Volga where she was a lifelong member. She was graduated from Volga Public School in 1943, and attended Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls. She married Ralph Pederson on July 24, 1947. They raised their three children Jerel, Irene and Roger in Volga. Early in her career, Beulah worked in the South Dakota State University Agronomy Department and later at the Volga Coop. She was active in the Volga American Legion Auxilary and in her church service groups. Throughout the years, Beulah's name was synonymous with "butter." She used it amply in her cakes, on her lefse and as the antidote for lutefisk. Her special birthday cakes were anticipated by the grandchildren, extended family and friends. And her lefse was in demand from loved ones on both coasts. She enriched our lives with her cooking and food for the soul, as she anchored her life in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Beulah's lefse making, which she continued long after others would have faltered, is the metaphor for her life the combination of hard work and tender loving care, in service to others. Beulah is survived by her children: Jerel, Yountville, California; Irene (Roger) Kesteloot, Benicia, California; and Roger, Volga; grandchildren Ryan (Joyce) Kesteloot, Evan Kesteloot, and Kyle Kesteloot, all of Sacramento, California; Benjamin Pederson and Jennifer ( Dustin) Lottman, both of Lincoln, Nebraska; and great grandchildren Kaelynn and Beckett Lottman; and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Ralph and her parents.
