Betty J. Skogen, age 65, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at her home in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Betty Jane (Hinrichsen) Skogen was born July 15, 1938, near Ward, South Dakota, to John and Gladys (Dearborn) Hinrichsen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school and high school in Hendricks, Minnesota. She worked as a waitress at various cafes and at Food Services at SDSU. Betty enjoyed dancing and playing the accordion by ear. She is especially remembered playing The Wabash Cannonball and other old-time tunes. Survivors include her three sons: Neil (Kay) Skogen of Hartford, Michigan, Doug Skogen and his special friend, Wendy Engel and her son, Dominick of Bruce, and David Skogen of Watertown; a daughter, Linda Bakken and her special friend, Tom Kerlin of Brookings; grandsons: Dusty (Brandi) Skogen of Hartford, Michigan, Cody and Kale Skogen of White, and James Basham of Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughters: Tonya (Dustin) Badman of Hartford, Michigan, and Shasta Basham of Brookings; great-grandchildren: Devin, Theresa, Covey, Dominick, Kane, and Peyton; step-great-grandchildren: Britnie, Korey, and MacKenzie; sisters: Helen (Arthur) Graslie of White, Marie Jensen, and Phyllis Coyle of Brookings, and Karen (Gene) Kaiser of Dempster; a brother, Roy (Sharon) Hinrichsen of Wabash, Indiana; two aunts: Alice (Tom) Moser of Aurora, South Dakota and Mae Danderand of Marshall, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
