Betty Mae Nagel, age 88, of Brookings died on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Visitations will be from 4:00 -6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, followed by a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Eidsness Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Betty was born on May 16, 1925, in Brookings County to William and Helena (Kracke) Wilaby. She received her education at Sherman District #104 and graduated from White High School in 1943. Betty continued her education at General Beadle Teacher's College in Madison, SD. After receiving her education, she taught school for four years in District Sherman #107 and District Oak Lake #59. Betty was united in marriage to Russell Nagel on June 6, 1946, in Pipestone, MN. They lived near Bruce and in Astoria until moving to Brookings in 1950. Betty was also an Avon Representative for over twenty years. Russell died on May 19, 1995. Betty was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a former member of Coffee Mates Extension Club and Mary Martha Circle. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, ceramics, and spending several years babysitting. Betty is survived by her children, Patricia (Michael) Wehde of Sioux Falls, Kim (Debra) Nagel, Nancy (Rick) Platt, and Craig (Marschel) Nagel, all of Brookings; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Melvin Herold of Brookings; sister-in-law, Marjorie Erickson of Pipestone, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Helen, Dorothy, Mavis, and Wilma, and infant brother, William Jr.
