Barbara N. Madsen, age 57, of Watertown, formerly of White, died Monday, August 11, 2008, at the White Healthcare Center, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Pioneer Lutheran Church near White, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White. Memorials may be directed to the Izaak Walton League. Barbara Nancy (Grande) Madsen was born May 10, 1951, at Hendricks, Minnesota, to Norman and Bernice (Bakke) Grande of White, South Dakota. She graduated from Deubrook High School in White and attended one year of college at General Beadle in Madison. On July 25, 1970, she married James Madsen, also of White, and the two moved to Okinawa where Jim served 18 months in the army. Barb worked for the Dean of Agriculture at SDSU from 1972 to 1976. In August of 1976 the couple moved to Sturgis where Jim started a 30 year career with USDA and Barb was a stay at home mom. In 1978 they moved to Martin and in 1979 to Webster. It was in Webster that Barb started her career in real estate. Her love of people, ability to communicate, and remarkable decorating skills made her an instant success. In 1986 the family moved to Watertown, and Barb continued her career in real estate, raised a family, and enjoyed living on Lake Kampeska. Barb was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, a life benefactor member of the Izaak Walton League of America, a member of the Northeast Realtors Association, and Ducks Unlimited. Survivors include her husband, James Madsen, of Watertown, South Dakota; three sons: Chad (Chastity) Madsen of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Jason (Tonia) Madsen of Watertown, and Jeremy (Stacy) Madsen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Zachary, Makayla, Paige, and Kenley Madsen; her mother, Bernice Grande, of White, South Dakota; a sister, Kathryn (Loren) McKinney, of White; and a brother, Paul Grande, of White. She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Grande.
