IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara
Hiaring
October 1, 1942 – September 23, 2016
On the evening of September 23, 2016, Barbara moved on to Gods immaculate kingdom, claiming her reward after living a bountiful and generous life.
Barbara was born on October 1, 1942 in Dubuque, Iowa, to John and Phyllis Hanson. She spent her childhood in many places throughout the Midwest, as her family moved around following her father's work and military service during World War II. Eventually they settled in Minneapolis where she graduated from Edina High School, and she pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota. Barbara met Robert "Bob" Hiaring while working as a dental assistant in Minneapolis, and they were married on June 6, 1964, in Summit, NJ. Their path took them to many new and wonderful places as they moved around for Bob's schooling (law) and work. While in Vermillion, SD she worked as a secretary in the primate laboratory in The Department of Psychology at the University of South Dakota.
In 1968 they were blessed with a daughter Lisa (Todd) Wood, and later loving grandchildren Krystal Royce and Josh (Jackie) Wood. She is survived by her sister Nancy (Terry) Kelly who resides in Florida, her brother Brad (Vickie) Hanson who resides in Georgia, and many other relatives and friends from across the country.
Barbara was a kind, caring and generous woman who could often be found volunteering throughout the community. Some of her volunteerism included time at her churches, the St. Johns Lutheran Home Auxiliary Board and the Brownie Scouts. She befriended and loved many seniors, whom she spent much time visiting with and taking various places. She took pride in throwing the best parties for birthdays, holidays, football and other special occasions. She truly was the hostess with the mostess.
A memorial service was held on Friday, September 30th in Billings, MT. Her cremains will be laid to rest next to her mother at the Brookings, South Dakota First Lutheran Cemetery at 1 PM. on Saturday, October 8. The service is to be followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Outdoor Adventure Center, 2810 22nd Ave. S., Brookings. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to heart disease, diabetes, or multiple sclerosis research, or a charity of choice.
