Avis E. Husby, age 80, of Volga, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai, with interment in the West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Avis Ellen (Hillestad) Husby was born September 26, 1929, at Arlington, South Dakota, to Julius and Jorend (Clement) Hillestad. She attended District 67 country school and graduated from Sinai High School. She was employed as a teller at First State Bank of Sinai prior to her marriage to Harold Husby on September 26, 1948, at Sinai Lutheran Church. Avis and Harold farmed and raised their family in the Sinai area.
Avis was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church, where she was involved as a member of Luther League, choir member, Sunday school teacher, WELCA, and church council. She was a member of extension club, and PTA. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, journaling, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Harold, of Volga; three sons: Lynn (Carol) Husby of Sioux Falls, Darwin Husby of Volga, and Allan Husby of Watertown, South Dakota; a daughter, Bonnie (David) Kiesow, of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Lou; and a daughter-in-law, Barb Husby.
