Arlyne Janssen, age 91, of Elkton, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 24, 2013, at the United Parish of Elkton, with interment in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Mary Arlyne Janssen was born July 18, 1922 to John and Laura (Zipse) Benz. She spent her entire life in Brookings County, SD. She received her education at various rural schools in Brookings County. She married Milton Janssen on January 5, 1944. They lived and farmed in rural Brookings County until moving to Elkton, SD in 1951. Arlyne drove school bus for the Elkton Public School for 11 years. She also worked at Staley's Café in Brookings and the Elkton Cafe for a time. She belonged to the Thimble Club, the Missionary Aid, United Parish Women and was a member of the Methodist Church in Elkton. In later years, she enjoyed delivering Meal on Wheels. She enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles, sewing quilt tops, and crocheting. She loved to cook, especially for a crowd of family and friends. Arlyne is survived by her children: Kathryn Brown of Elkton, Marjorie Johannsen of Sioux Falls, Virginia Janssen of Elkton, Raymond (Donna) of Sturgis, SD, Patricia (David) Burris of Abilene, TX, Peggy Glover of Elkton, and Shirley Courtney of Altoona, IA; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her "adopted" grandchildren-John and Marsha's ABCD; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; one brother: Wayne Benz of Mitchell, SD, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Milton, her parents and siblings, Victor, Mildred, Edna, & Glenn; an infant son, an infant grandson, and an infant great-grandson.
