Arloene V. Hornby, age 90, of Brookings, died Friday, November 11, 2005, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Arloene Veronica (Jensen) Hornby was born January 28, 1915, on the family farm near Irene, South Dakota, to Andrew and Mary (Jonason) Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church at Irene. She attended country school at Reese District No. 29 near Irene. On September 5, 1942, she married Robert H. Hornby at Hartington, Nebraska. The Hornbys farmed near Brookings until 1972. Robert died May 7, 1982. Survivors include two daughters: Madalen (Bill) Farrin of Palmdale, California, and Sandra Stoltenberg of Brookings; two sons: James (Doris) Hornby of Brookings and Roger Hornby of Westminister, Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Jane Peterson of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel C. Bak, of Viborg, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; a daughter, Judith; son, Blayne Peterson; a son-in-law, Herb Stoltenberg; a sister, Hulda Klingler; and two brothers, Anchor and Melvin Jensen.
