Arlene Nelson, age 86, of Volga, South Dakota, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will precede services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the Brookings Humane Society. Amy Arlene Nelson was born February 26, 1922, at Magnet, Nebraska, to Eric and Minnie (Knutson) Nelson. She graduated from Volga High School in 1939 and attended secretarial school. She lived and worked in Washington, D.C., for ten years. She returned to the family farm in South Dakota where she was able to enjoy the land and animals she loved so much. She remained on the farm until 2005, when she moved to Dakota Sun in Volga and then to the Golden Living Center in Arlington. Survivors include cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Georgine Dudik.
