Arlene B. Flaskey, age 91, of Brookings passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the United Living Community.  Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Eidsness Funeral Home with visitation at 1 P.M.

Arlene was born on October 23, 1930, to Otto and Lenora (Schmidt) Gries in Holstein, IA.  She received her education in Holstein and was a graduate of Holstein High School.  Arlene continued her education at National Business Training in Sioux City, IA.  She was united in marriage to William Flaskey on August 26, 1951, in Sioux Falls, SD.

Arlene was employed at various places during her lifetime, including Des Moines Life Insurance Company, J.I. Case Company, and later owned and operated Pizza Unlimited until 1987.  On May 7, 1988, her husband William passed away.

Arlene was an accomplished gardener and painter. She prepared many meals from her garden and canned a wide variety of fruits and vegetables over the years, she also dabbled in wine making on a few occasions. Some of her paintings (Butterflies and Rustic nature scenes) are on display in her children's homes. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, league bowling, and square dancing.

Arlene and her husband purchased a cabin on lake Poinsett in the early 70's and the family enjoyed spending time there for many years.

Arlene was a member of GracePoint Wesleyan Church and the church choir.  She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the LaSoirre Extension Club.  Arlene was very active in volunteer work, travelling as far as Cambodia for missionary work at one time.

Survivors include her children, Randy (Sandy) Flaskey of Brookings, Babette Jung of Madison, and Daniel (Adeline) Flaskey of Aurora; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son-in-law, Dwight Jung; and two sisters, Elaine and Jeanette.
