IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ardell
Madison
October 3, 1927 – February 5, 2024
Ardell Madison peacefully left us on February 5, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born on October 3, 1927, in a farmhouse near Parker, SD, the only child to Lawrence and Esther (Christensen) Paulson.
On September 24, 1947, she embarked on a lifelong adventure with Eugene "Gene" U. Madison, and together, they danced through numerous places, leaving pieces of their hearts in Yakima and Seattle, Washington; Viborg, Yankton, Sinai, Sioux Falls, and White, South Dakota; Billings, Montana; Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Evansville, Indiana; and in Freeport, Darien, and Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Ardell and Gene had 5 beautiful children together: Janet, Gloria, Deborah, Allan, and Mark.
Ardell wore various hats throughout her life and career – she was a dedicated homemaker, mother, realtor, and the Activity Director at the White Care Center in White, SD. Her involvement in the Brookings Morningside Community Church, White Community Club, and the President of the United Methodist Women's Association of White showcased her dedication to community and service.
Ardell's zest for life extended to her involvement with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 88. She wasn't just a member; she was a powerhouse, serving in different roles through the years: president, secretary, poppy chairman, veterans affairs and public relations chairman, and earning the title of Legionette of the Year in 2002.
Beyond her impressive list of accomplishments, Ardell had a fantastic sense of humor. Jokes were her love language, and she made it an art to share them with others and send them via mail, spreading joy wherever they landed. Her wild pheasant dishes were legendary, a testament to her culinary expertise. She found joy in politics, reading, card games, bingo, and scrabble. Her family fondly recalls her as a loving mother and grandmother, eagerly welcoming family visits.
Ardell is survived by two daughters, Janet (Ernie) Wimberly of Benton, Illinois; Deborah Madison of Evansville, Indiana; and a son, Mark Madison of Cortez, Colorado.
She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren: Danae McDaniel and Brea (Destry) Diefenbach of Benton, Illinois; Lexia Meek of Portland, Maine; Juston Deig of Evansville, Indiana, Bianna (Tyler) Owen of Mattoon, Illinois, and Kiersten (Scott) Roberts of Newburgh, Indiana; Kate Madison of Janesville, Wisconsin, Corinne (Mike) Bone of Davis Junction, Illinois, and Hannah (Corey) Mahnke of West Bend, Wisconsin; and 12 great-grandchildren: Hunter McDaniel, Triston Diefenbach, Joshua Meek, Addie Meek, Quinn Meek, Alaina Owen, Malia Owen, Darcy Roberts, Elliott Roberts, Misha Madison, Beckham Bone, and Malcolm Mahnke.
Ardell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Gloria, and son, Allan.
Funeral services will be held at Eidsness Funeral Home in White, SD, on Monday, February 19 with visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, and the funeral service at 11:30 AM. Join us in celebrating a life well-lived, as we lay Ardell to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in White, South Dakota.
As we bid farewell, let's remember Ardell's infectious laughter, her warm heart, and the twinkle in her eyes. Continue to share jokes, spread joy, and celebrate life with the enthusiasm and energy she showed us.
