Annette Joyce Morrison (Berg) lived a full and vibrant life. Annette was born to Alf and Lillian Berg on July 26, 1943. Annette passed away on February 2, 2025 at The Neighborhoods at Brookview. A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 22nd, 2025 at 1 pm at Eidsness Funeral Home. All who attend are encouraged to wear colorful and/or tea party-worthy apparel.
Annette grew up in rural Hillsboro, ND, attending country school and graduating from Mayville High School. Annette received her Bachelor's from Mayville State College with a degree in music and education. Following college graduation, Annette taught 1st grade for one year in Fargo, ND.
From a very early age, Annette had the bug to create. She experimented (as allowed) in the family garden as a child and began sewing; first by hand and later using her mom's sewing machine. Annette taught herself many sewing skills throughout her life, which would later pay off when she sewed her own wedding dress and veil. In later years, she sewed many outfits for her family, ranging from full men's and women's suits, to doll clothing, and later grew to include making quilts, which became treasured family heirlooms.
Annette attended Bible college for one year in 1966 and 1967, where she met Mim, Connie and Cheryl. Annette, Mim and Connie became a singing trio called the Melody Messengers, with Cheryl accompanying on the piano. These four traveled for ten weeks during the summer of 1967. Annette also toured Canada with the Bible school's string band in the spring, and traveled the East Coast over Christmas break. These trips were a formative experience for Annette, being able to minister in music for the Lord, and have fun while doing it.
In the summer of 1967, Annette accepted a position as parish worker in Lynnewood, Washington, where she performed many secretarial duties, taught Sunday school, played organ and piano, and gave piano lessons. During her three years at Lynnewood, Annette was asked to be the soloist in a wedding at the church. Friends from both the bride and groom's sides plotted to set Annette up with the groom's best man: Justin Morrison, of Ft. Dodge, IA. The day after the wedding, Annette and Justin went on their first date. Two weeks later, Justin asked Annette to marry him, but didn't offer a ring because he wasn't sure Annette would say yes. She did say yes, and two months later at Christmas, Annette was given a wrapped shoebox full of shaving cream with a ring box inside. Six months later on April 10th, 1970, Annette and Justin were married.
During their honeymoon, Justin and Annette visited missionaries whose farm was in rural Toronto, SD: Luther and Addie Mathison. The Mathisons were accepting a call to minister in Africa, and needed someone to farm their land for them while they were gone; Annette and Justin agreed to do it.
Over the next decades, Annette and Justin moved a number of times, which took them to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and eventually back to South Dakota. During these years, Annette gave birth to three children; Dirk, Lance and Carrie. Annette eventually found homeschooling, which she did for part of Lance's school years, and all of Carrie's.
Annette taught music in a ministry capacity to a number of children over the years and wrote many Bible lessons from scratch. She created skits, sewed puppets and created fun and anointed learning environments for multiple ministries.
Annette was always a devoted wife and mom, and an avid gardener, especially of flowers! During summer months, Annette could often be found with her hands in the dirt or holding a watering can. Growing flowers brought her the most joy, other than time spent with family.
Annette always prioritized the Word of God for herself as well as her friends and family. She spent many hours praying and declaring the Word over her family, and mentored many people during her lifetime.
At the end of her life, Annette stood firm in her faith, and crossed over to Heaven's side still standing and believing in God's ability to fulfill His promises.
Annette is survived by her loving family members; siblings: Duane (Linda) Berg of Oklahoma, Ramona Johnston of Texas, Wendell (Judy) Berg of North Dakota; children: Dirk (Nancy) Morrison of Piedmont, South Dakota and their children, Thor (Claire) of Rapid City, Anika, Liv and Lars of Piedmont, South Dakota; Lance (Gretchen) Morrison of Dillon, Montana and their children Tori and Logan; and Carrie Morrison of Brookings, SD.
We praise God for the life of our mom, grandma, friend and mentor.
