Obituary

Anna Obenauer, age 89, of Brookings, died Tuesday, August 26, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 29, at Faith Reformed Church in Brookings with interment at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Ashley, North Dakota. Visitations will be prior to the services, beginning at 5:00 P.M. Friday at the church. Anna (Hoff) Obenauer was born April 15, 1914, at Eureka, South Dakota, to Jacob and Louisa (Vollmer) Hoff. She attended country school near Eureka. On October 16, 1940, she married Henry Jacob Obenauer at Eureka. She was a homemaker while her children were in school, and continued caring for children who often became like family members to her. Henry died December 24, 1967. Anna enjoyed gardening, doing word search puzzles, and playing board games, especially Aggravation. Throughout her life she enjoyed music, especially hymns. She often was overheard singing and humming as she went about her daily activities. Survivors include her four children: Lucille (Carl) Moen of Ames, Iowa, Wilmer (Cathy) Obenauer of Rapid City, South Dakota, Evangeline (Ernest) Knutson of Lindstrom, Minnesota, and Vi (Gregg) Jongeling of Brookings, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six brothers: Ruben of Mobridge, Clarence of Sioux Falls, Milbert of Rapid City, Alton of Aberdeen, Herman of Slidell, Louisiana, and Jacob of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Keith, three sisters, and a brother.
