Anna Espetvedt, age 97, died Monday, December 20, 2004, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 23, 2004, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will precede services at the church. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church. Gerritdina Johanna (Vande Worp) Espetvedt was born March 12, 1907, to Tiemen and Gerritdina (Miejerman) Vande Worp in the Netherlands. She came to America with her parents when she was one year old. They settled at Sibley, Iowa, then moved to South Dakota in 1917 in the vicinity of Estelline and Volga. The family lived in Washington state for two years, and returned to farm near Volga in 1928. Anna married John Espetvedt on September 10, 1932. A daughter, Tina Johanna, was born to them on December 14, 1934. Tina died September 3, 1955. Anna and John farmed until November 1970 when they moved into Volga. John died February 7, 1971. Anna was baptized in the Netherlands and was confirmed a member of First Lutheran Church. She was active in the A.L.C.W. and JOY Group. Survivors include nieces and other extended relatives in the Volga area. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter; and a sister, Eilerdina Ekman.
