Obituary

Angie Van Heerde, age 78, of Brookings, died Saturday, September 22, 2007, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at First Reformed Church in Volga, South Dakota, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Angie Marie (DeKnikker) Van Heerde was born September 13, 1929, in Volga, South Dakota, to Aart and Marianna (Warnes) DeKnikker. She received her education in Brookings County School Districts No. 90 and 94, and attended 7th and 8th grades in Volga Public. She graduated from Volga High School May 16, 1948. She was confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Volga and later married Edward Van Heerde of Colton there in December, of 1949. The couple moved to Colton where they farmed for 18 years. They moved to a farm near Volga where they farmed until Edward passed away in 1984. Upon moving to Volga, Angie did child care for 2 years and worked at the Staurolite Inn in Brookings as a housekeeper. She later went to the Holiday Inn of Brookings where she worked as a housekeeper for 18 years. Angie did housekeeping at the United Retirement Center in Brookings for 13 years until her retirement in 2000, when she moved to Brookings. She was blessed with two children, Donald (Rose) Van Heerde of Alvaton, Kentucky, and Kathy (Jeffery) Robbins of Lake Hendricks, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren: David Van Heerde and Angell Tommeraasen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Rachel (Darin) Janes of Volga, South Dakota, Colin (Lynda) Pierce of Bruce, South Dakota, and Cole Robbins of Brookings, South Dakota; and five great? grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Margaret Billings; nephew, Philip Billings; one very special aunt; 3 special uncles; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a great-grandson, James Pierce.
