A
ndrew "Andy" Van Dyke, age 86, of Brookings, went home to the Lord on December 4th 2017, surrounded by family at The Neighborhoods At Brookview.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 15, at Brookings First Assembly of God, with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Andy was born October 10th 1931, to Dries and Margaret Van Dyke. While in the Air Force in Topeka Kansas, he married Ona Ellison on February 5th 1953. They farmed near Topeka until moving near White, South Dakota, in 1958, then moved to Brookings in 1974. They had two children, Angela and Randy.
Andy worked for a SDSU Dairy farm for 26 years (1966-1992) as an Ag Research Technician and owned and operated Van Dyke Construction. He enjoyed operating his backhoe and skid steer, doing cement work, and snow removal. Andy enjoyed going out to eat Saturday nights with friends to different places. You could find him several times a day at McDonalds for coffee breaks. He was the kind of guy who would help anyone out, and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Brookings.
Grateful for having shared his life are four granddaughters: Val Resel, and children Alex and Haley, of Watertown, SD; Julie Van Dyke (Preston LeSage), and children Tanner and Nolan, of Brookings SD; Jessica Van Dyke (Dan Bach), of Brookings SD; Maria (Daniel) Byler and children David, Andrew, Alex, Angela and Samuel, of Ethan SD; three grandsons: Michael Van Dyke, and children Justice, Mary, and Lisa, of Madison SD; Joey Krause, Keth Krause, and children Kyler, Merlin and Avery, of Aberdeen SD; two sisters: Margaret DeRuyter, of Holland MN, and Henrietta DeVriend, of Sioux Falls SD; two brothers: Albert (Lorraine) Van Dyke, of Pipestone MN; John Van Dyke, of Avoca, MN; two sister in-laws: Helen Palmateer, Mary Jane Ellison, of Inola OK; many nephews, nieces and special friends; Jim & Susanne Gardner, and Ken & Joan Knudson all of Brookings SD.
Andy is preceded in death by his parents, Dries & Margaret Van Dyke; his wife, Ona; two infant brothers: Gerrit and John; adult brothers: Fred, Gerrit, Bennie, Bert, Peter, Henry and Alt Van Dyke; three sisters: Bertha Golic, Jeanette, Hilda Van Dyke; one son: Randy Van Dyke, and one daughter: Angela Koerner.
