Amy Lynn Heidemann was born on November 3, 1980, to Terrance and Debra (Brown) Heidemann in Brookings, South Dakota. Amy grew up in the Brookings area before moving to the Crippled Children's School and Hospital in 1984. In 1987, Amy attended the Redfield Developmental Program for Children where she attended class throughout the week. In 1996, Amy became a resident at the Youth Services ADVANCE home in Brookings. Amy received an honorary high school diploma in 2001 from the Brookings High School. She also worked at the Larson ADVANCE plant for about 3 years.
Amy will be remembered as a carefree, loving, and happy person. She loved riding horses with the STARS program and swimming. While attending a trip to the Black Hills with her ADVANCE family, Amy was able to ride the 1881 train which she greatly enjoyed. She participated in the Special Olympics, where she participated in bowling, swimming, and track events. She was a lover of fuzzy socks, music, being read to, and having her hair brushed. Amy was unpredictable at times, especially when it came to fooling her medical teams. Expected to have a much shorter life, Amy went on to defy all expectations. Her kind and gentle spirit allowed her to make many friends throughout the years, particularly at her ADVANCE house.
Amy is survived by her parents, Terrance and Debra Heidemann, of Volga; her sisters Dalene Keimig and Viola Heidemann of Volga, SD; brother in law Martin Keimig, of Clear Lake, SD; niece Aren Keimig; nephews Glenn and Colton Keimig; Godparent Brenda Ganyo Maple Grove, MN; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and family.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Ervin and Myrtle Brown, and Arnold and Marian Heidemann; brother Eric Heidemann; Godfather Dale Wiirre; uncle David Jungers, and cousin Rebecca Jungers.
