Obituary

Allan G. Watt, age 92, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 10, 2007 at Pioneer Lutheran Church, rural White, South Dakota, with interment and military rites in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 3-6 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Allan Gibson Watt was born August 7, 1915, in Deuel County, South Dakota, to Allan G. and Margaret (Fraser) Watt. He grew on the farm in Deuel County, and graduated from Agriculture School in 1939. . He served in the U.S. Army for four and a half years during World War II, and was sent overseas in March of 1942 and served in the South Pacific on Guadalcanal and Bougansville Island protecting the air strips. He served overseas for 28 months as a sergeant in charge of 32 men. He was discharged in August 1945. On November 20, 1946, he married Ruby Krenz at Estelline, South Dakota. Allan farmed for 58 years before he and Ruby moved to Brookings. He continued helping to farm for another twelve years. Allan was a member of Pioneer Lutheran Church and Higgins-Jessen American Legion Post No. 88, of White. He served on the Argo Township Board. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Watt, of Brookings; five children: Lynnette (Harlan) Hartman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kathleen (Donald) Sheehan of Littleton, Colorado, Anita (Douglas) Swenson of Flagstaff, Arizona, Greg (Cynthia) Watt of White, South Dakota, and Janelle (Paul) Ster of Marion, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Angus (Pearl) Watt of Estelline, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, James and Hugh.
