October 25, 1951 – April 22, 2021
Allan John Kooima, age 69, of Volga, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at First Reformed Church in Volga with burial to follow at Trinity Cemetery rural Volga. Visitation will be on Monday, April 26 th from 5-7 P.M. also at the church. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Allan Kooima was born in Canton, SD on October 25, 1951 to Henry and Grace (Hoff) Kooima. He grew up on a farm outside of Rock Valley, IA. Allan attended country school and completed his elementary education Rock Valley Christian. He then attended Rock Valley Public school, graduating in 1969. After high school, Allan entered the Air National Guard. Allan always had a love for farming and worked for the Rock Valley and Fairview Elevators.
Allan married Bernita Vander Wal on July 21, 1972 in Volga. In 1983, Allan was able to fulfill his dream of owning a farm. The family moved to their farm near Volga. Allan also enjoyed singing and woodworking. He was also an avid supporter of all of his grandchildren's activities.
Allan was an active member of First Reformed Church in Volga. He served as an elder and a deacon. He also served as Sunday school superintendent, taught Sunday school, and sang in many choirs and singing groups. Allan was also an active member of the Sioux Valley Energy Board of Directors and the SDREA board. He enjoyed meeting and talking to new people wherever he went. Allan also pursued his love of auctions by becoming a licensed auctioneer. Many Saturdays were spent at the auction shed in Arlington, as well as at the Prairie Village annual auctions.
Survivors include his wife Bernita of Volga, SD; children: Amy (Scott) Christopherson, Volga, SD; Heath (Michelle) Kooima, Lake Preston, SD; and Clint (Kristi) Kooima, Volga, SD; Grandchildren: Carson and Brock Christopherson, Jaxon, Avery, and Deacon Kooima; Step-grandchildren: Carter and Ava Malone; sister Deb (Steve) Payton, Chantilly, VA; brother Curt (Sandra) Kooima, Rock Valley, IA; sister in law Deb Kooima of Sioux Falls; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Diane, and brother Dale.
