Obituary

Alice Mulder, age 79, of Volga, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Alice (Van Beek) Mulder was born December 26, 1928, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Frederick Gerrit and Sadie (Hoogeboom) Van Beek. She grew up a mile east of Volga and attended the Gruseth country school. She graduated from Volga High School in 1948. She worked at SDSU as a secretary and in Grand Rapids, Michigan, prior to her marriage to Arthur Mulder on March 15, 1955, at Volga. After their marriage the Mulders farmed for three years near Bushnell and nine years near Castlewood before moving to a farm near Volga in 1967. Alice was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church and the ladies aid. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, baking, and vegetable and flower gardening. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Mulder, of Volga; three children: Richard (Trudy) Mulder of Volga, Rebecca (Merlyn) Darling of Worthington, Minnesota, and Roger Mulder of Brookings; five granddaughters; a grandson; a sister, Corky TeKrony of Castlewood, South Dakota; and a brother, Robert (Ardith) Van Beek, of Volga. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Gerrit, Charles, and Conrad; and a sister, Wilhelmina Lengkeek.
