Alice G. Moulton, age 82, of Elkton, SD, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She had been visiting her two daughters and their families in Kansas for several weeks when she became ill. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Prairie Winds Baptist Church at Elkton, with interment in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Alice was born on August 30, 1929, to Anna Barbara (Francis-Tucker) and Ary Van Maanen at Volga, SD. She was married to Larry W. Moulton on August 6, 1954, at Brookings, SD. Prior to her marriage, she taught at a Brookings country school west of Volga. Alice taught in Worley, Idaho while Larry was in the military. Upon his discharge, Larry and Alice, and their one year old son, Larry, Jr., returned to South Dakota to farm. Alice then taught school at the country school in Ward, SD until she obtained a teaching position at Elkton, SD. Three daughters, Barbara, Julie and Anita, were born to the family during this time. She attended Northern State in Aberdeen, and continued her education at General Beadle/Dakota State College in Madison, SD while teaching fulltime. At the age of 50, she received a Masters Degree in Education from Dakota State College. Her teaching career lasted over 40 years. After retiring from Elkton, she taught at the Pleasant Valley Hutterite Colony east of Flandreau. She filled in as a substitute teacher in the Flandreau School District for several years before retiring permanently. Alice was passionate about teaching. Alice was proud of her Dutch heritage. She spent a great deal of time collecting family histories and compiling them for family reunions. Alice was a member of Prairie Winds Baptist Church, Elkton, SD. She was blessed to be able to read through the Bible more than once in recent years. Grateful for sharing her life are her children and their families. Larry (Deann) Moulton and their family Conrad (Jamie Salonen) and Samantha (fiancé Jason Jenkins), Barbara (Sam) Vanderpool and her family Christina Moss, Christian and Sheridan , David (Rachel) Moss, Garret , Julie (Charles) Pritchett and their family Chantelle, Chase and Brooke, and son-in-law, Bill DeZeeuw and his family, Michael (Alicia), Mariah Rae Moulton, Scott, and Brian DeZeeuw. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Selken, sister-in-law, Elaine Tucker, and brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas (Juanita) Moulton, Jackie (Harland) Haug, and Delillah (Tommy) Reynolds and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Vern Tucker and Virgil Van Maanen, her daughter, Anita DeZeeuw and her husband.
