Alden Skovlund, age 76, of Bruce, died Sunday, June 21, 2015, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce, with interment in St. Petri Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Memorials may be given to St. Petri Cemetery. Alden LaVerne Skovlund was born March 10, 1939, at Estelline, South Dakota, to Oscar and Mabel E. (Holter) Skovlund. He was baptized at St. Petri Lutheran Church and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. He attended country school. From 1959 until 1964 he served in the Army National Guard. On December 1, 1960, Alden married Carol Ulvestad at Grace Lutheran Church. He worked for Bibby-Kallemeyn Dairy, Paulder Builders, Gottschalk Construction, and for Moriarty Construction for 35 years. Alden enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and feeding the birds and squirrels. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his two grandsons, Joshua and Drew. Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Bruce; a daughter, Debra (Daniel) Musilek, of Wewela, South Dakota; two grandsons, Joshua and Drew Musilek; a sister, Audrey Ulvestad of Bruce; two brothers, Gerald of Bruce, and Harold of Brookings; and six sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, four sisters, and son Gene.
