Elwyn "Al" Roach, age 83, of Brookings, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview. Al will be buried next to Carol at First Lutheran Cemetery in Brookings. A drive by visitation will be Tuesday May 5, 2020, from 4-6 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Home. Please pull through the driveway in front of the funeral home and out through the parking lot.

Al Roach was born on September 12, 1936, at Bruce, SD, the son of Floyd and Mary (McPeek) Roach.  He grew up in Brookings and was an only child.  Al received his education in the Brookings School District, where he participated in football, basketball, and track. He graduated from the Brookings High School in 1954. Al was united in marriage to Carol Strande on September 11, 1955, in Volga, SD.  Al was employed with Headley Electric for many years until his employment with the Brookings School System as maintenance engineer. He continued to work as maintenance engineer until his retirement in 2001.  Carol passed away on June 24, 2014.

Al was a member of First Lutheran Church and was a faithful volunteer for the Brookings Fire Department for over 45 years. After retiring from the fire department, Al still enjoyed attending the fireman's dinner meetings throughout the county. He was also a member the BPO Elks for over 50 years. Al drove the shuttle bus van for GP Shuttle Service and enjoyed the many "conversations" he had with strangers from all around the country. He could start a conversation with anyone, as everyone knows. Al also enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, and attending all of his children's sporting events.

Survivors include his children, Steve (Shauna) Roach, Gregg (Tammy) Roach, Vicki (Tim) Jensen all of Brookings, SD, and Tom (Penny) Roach of Foxfield, CO; eleven grandchildren: Stephanie (Tom) Munich, Luke (Lindsay) Roach, Zach Roach, Autumn Russell, Jake Russell, Carley (Billy) McMacken, Carter Roach, Corey Roach, Derek (Jessica) Jensen, Conner (Haylee) Roach, and Sam Roach; and eleven great-grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary, and his wife, Carol.
