Adell F. McKeown, age 89, of Brookings, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at the United Living Community in Brookings. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at the United Parish of Elkton, with interment in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will precede services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Adell Florine McKeown was born January 4, 1924, at Lily, South Dakota, to Samuel and Encie (Burch) McDowell. She lived in Lily until the first grade when the family moved to Clark where they lived for ten years. They moved to Elkton where Adell graduated from high school in 1941. On April 15, 1942, she married Verle McKeown in Seattle, Washington. Adell was a homemaker and farm wife, and after raising her children she also worked in a hobby store for a year and for J.C. Penney's for twelve years. Adell was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Rebekah's. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, traveling, and collecting dolls and lighthouses. Survivors include her children: Joyce Larson of Trosky, MN, Dorie (Joe) Kramer of Alvord, IA, Judi (Don) DeZeeuw of Brookings, SD, Jane (Chad) Kono of Brooklyn Park, MN, Debbie (Jay) Haas of Portland, OR, Jim McKeown of Aurora, SD, and Darrell (Suzi) McKeown of Brookings, SD; 28 grandchildren; many precious great and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Kock, of Alvord, Iowa; a brother, Don (Karen) McDowell, of Mesa, Arizona; and a sisters-in-law, Frances McDowell, of Anchorage, AK, and Thallis Jensen of Brookings, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
