Adeline Birkholz, age 90, of Brookings, died Friday, January 18, 2008, at Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A private family committal service will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings. Memorials should be directed to the Care Group at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Adeline Anna (Wetter) Birkholz was born October 2, 1917, at Sherburn, Minnesota, to Lawrence and Cleo (Coomes) Wetter. She grew up in Sebeka, Minnesota, and graduated from Sebeka High School in 1934. On October 2, 1936, she married Lewis F. Birkholz at Wadena, Minnesota. They lived in Two Harbors, Minnesota following World War II, and then lived at Duluth, Minnesota, where Adeline worked as a nurses aid for ten years. They moved to Brookings in 1977. Lewis died June 11, 1986. Adeline moved to Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls three and a half years ago. Adeline was an avid gardener, growing both flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed quilting and reading. Survivors include three children: Lawrence Birkholz of Poland, Ohio, Clyde (Sandra) Birkholz of Two Harbors, Minnesota, and Cleo (Carl) Edeburn of Brookings; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters; and four brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter-in-law, Judi; and a brother.
